Best Winter Honeymoon Destinations in the USA

Winter Honeymoon Destinations In the United States

After a tough year for wedding planning, I know many brides are dreaming of a relaxing vacation on a tropical beach. The one problem is, many of them are still closed to tourists. Luckily, there are gorgeous winter honeymoon destinations in the United States. These are five of the best spots to embrace the season and have a dreamy honeymoon in a winter wonderland.

Jackson, wyoming

If spending your honeymoon at a luxurious winter resort is something you’ve ever dreamed of, Jackson Hole is an ideal romantic getaway. Surrounded by the Grand Tetons mountains, Jackson has the perfect combination of adventurous activities and relaxing amenities.

Of course, one of the big draws to the region is skiing, and there are plenty of gorgeous powdery slopes for both beginners and advanced skiers. Couples can even take a dog sled ride to the steamy Granite Hot Springs or a majestic sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge.

When it’s time to slow things down, stroll the charming streets around the town of Jackson Hole. Pop into the boutiques and restaurants and then spend the afternoon rejuvenating together at one of the many spas in town.

Where to Stay: Hotel Terra in Teton Village is a modern boutique ski hotel perfect for a romantic honeymoon. Take a dip in the rooftop hot tub or infinity pool before settling in for the night. Spacious suites complete with fireplaces and oversized windows are perfect for cuddling up and watching the snowfall. Location: 3335 West Village Drive, Teton Village, WY 83025

ANCHORAGE and fairbanks, Alaska

A honeymoon in Alaska is an incredibly enchanting place for newlyweds. Yes, it’s going to be cold (very cold in certain spots), but the gorgeous scenery and once in a lifetime experiences more than make up for the chilly temperatures.

If there was ever a time to rent an adorable, cozy cabin this is it. Fly into Anchorage as a home base but drive out of the city about 45 minutes south to the little town of Girdwood. The drive down is spectacular so be sure to head down during the daylight if possible.

Farther south the picturesque town of Seward is a fun day-trip from Girdwood. Although many shops and restaurants may be closed for the winter, wildlife viewing boat tours run year round. For something more active, drive up to Denali National Park for a snowshoeing excursion. If staying close to home sounds ideal, there is a ski resort right down the road complete with a Nordic spa (coming 2021) and upscale restaurants.

For memories that will last a lifetime, take the Aurora Winter Train from Anchorage to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights. The journey north through the snowy landscape is stunning in itself. The lights are usually visible from September-March, perfect for a winter honeymoon.

Where to Stay: Comfortable and Cozy Girdwood Cabin Location: Girdwood, Alaska

Stowe, Vermont

Stowe Vermont may be known for its amazing fall foliage during autumn, but when the snow falls it transforms into a winter wonderland. Stowe is exactly the charming New England town you would expect it to be, and a dreamy option for a winter honeymoon.

Skiing and cross-country skiing (with or without a guide) are the biggest attractions in Stowe. If that is your prime focus for the trip, consider staying at The Lodge at Spruce Park, Stowe’s only ski-in, ski-out luxury resort. Don’t Ski? No problem. Dog sledding, ice skating, winter zip-lining or just good old fashioned sledding are just a few fun activities happening during the winter.

Stowe is a town full of resident artists, and there are many galleries and shops to explore on a leisurely afternoon. Stop in the Stowe Bee Bakery for coffee or hot chocolate (and something sweet) to stay warm.

Where to Stay: Stone Hill Inn Location: 89 Houston Farm Road, Stowe, VT, 05672

Yellowstone, Montana

It doesn’t get much more tranquil than snowmobiling through Yellowstone National Park in the winter. Most of the roads are closed and only accessible by guided over-snow transportation, making it feel like you are the only ones in the park.

Everything that visitors flock to see during the warmer months get an extra special magical touch in the winter. Spend your winter honeymoon watching steaming geysers turn into snow as the water hits frozen air and comes back down as tiny sparkling crystals of ice. Next, take a tour of Mammoth Hot Springs and soak away the afternoon in the Boiling River.

There is plenty of wildlife to see in the winter like elk, wolves, bighorn sheep, and of course, buffalo wearing a coat of white snow. In the evening, watch the sinking sun light up the Firehole Valley at twilight, giving way to a sky full of stars at night.

Experiencing Yellowstone’s winter magic will create memories that will last a lifetime. There are only two places within Yellowstone to stay during the winter, Mammoth Hot Springs & Cabins and Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins. They are both excellent locations to take advantage of everything Yellowstone has to offer. For a cozy place with romantic amenities, Sage Lodge is only about 45 minutes from Mammoth Hot Springs.

Where to Stay: Sage Lodge is a little bit of luxury in the beauty of the Montana wilderness. Cozy suites with fireplaces looks look out at gorgeous mountain views. Two restaurants and a full service spa will feel like an extra special treat after an active day at the park. Both tours into the park and skiing excursion can be booked directly though the lodge. Location: 55 Sage Lodge Drive, Pray, MT 59065

Hocking Hills, Ohio

Hocking Hills in Southeastern Ohio is a beautiful place any time of the year, but during the winter it becomes an incredible place for a winter honeymoon in the USA.

Hiking is the most popular thing to do in Hocking hills. There are over 300 miles of trails with unique natural landscapes to explore. Ash Cave, Old Man’s Cave, and Cedar Falls are some of the best spots to check out. During the winter as the water falls freeze and everything in covered in white it becomes and incredibly romantic places to explore. With the summer crowds gone, it will feel like a winter wonder land for two. There is plenty to do after a long day of hiking. Hocking Hills has a reputation as an up and coming foodie destination and even has its own winery.

At night, be sure to spend time gazing at the stars. Hocking Hills has the darkest night sky in Ohio making it the perfect spot for a romantic evening. Stargazing from the private hottub of a cabin is an even better was to see the stars. Cabins, yurts, cottages and a bed and breakfast are all choices for where to stay.

Where to stay: No matter what type of accommodation you choose, be sure to visit The Inn at Cedar Falls for an afternoon at the spa. Enjoy a couples massage together, and then take a private class learning the techniques to use at home. Address: 21190 State Route 374, Logan Ohio 43138
